KIDS LOVE TO LEARN ABOUT FOODS

In cooperation with the afterschool program at the Shadeville Elementary school, a second cooking school series was held. Through the leadership of Kim Ruiz, site director and Deb VanHorn, overall coordinator, ten young people (this time all girls) participated.

Stacy Harvey provided an educational session on nutrition through the Expanded Food and Nutrition Educational Program and then the girls put their knowledge to work to prepare food that is grown in Florida. In the five week series they learned more about the foods grown in their state, safety practices in the kitchen and the preparation techniques to insure success. Each were awarded a certificate of completion at the end of the series. They awarded Shelley Swenson, FCS Agent with a potholder that one of them had made!
