Unfortunately, due to lack of registrants, the Stages of Life Workshop has been cancelled. Call us at (850) 926-3931 if you have any questions. Thank you!
Local Wakulla County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Shelley Swenson, has partnered with Dr. Christine Chiu-Geers of TMH Physician Partners Wakulla to provide an open discussion on the subject of menopause. During menopause, a woman’s body slowly produces less of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. This shift in hormone production often occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 years. Menopause is a normal change in a woman’s life that is often not discussed; thus, women have little information on how to adapt.
This stage of a woman’s life may be accompanied by physical and emotional changes that result in struggles at home and in the workplace. That is why this workshop is intended for spouses and partners, in addition to women.
Topics to be discussed include:
- What is menopause?
- What is hormone therapy?
- What are the symptoms of menopause?
- What are the benefits and risks of using hormones?
- Does estrogen replacement prevent thin bones?
- Are there herbs and other natural products useful in treating the symptoms?
- What can a woman do to improve health whether hormones are taken or not?
The discussion will take place at 6:30 p.m. on March 12th in Room 1 of the Wakulla County Extension Office, 84 Cedar Avenue, Crawfordville. There is no charge for the program and everyone is encouraged to attend! For planning purposes, please indicate your interest in attending by calling (850) 926-3931. We look forward to seeing you there!
