UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County Launches New “Master Waste Reduction Educator” Program

Be part of Sarasota County’s first-ever Master Waste Reduction Educator Program!

UF/IFAS Sarasota County Extension is launching the inaugural Master Waste Reduction Educator Program. This immersive, six-week experience is designed to empower residents and local leaders to become champions of smart, practical waste reduction. We’re looking for 12 Sarasota County residents to join our first cohort this spring and help lead the way toward a healthier, more resilient community.

About the program

Tailored to the unique needs and goals of Sarasota County, the Master Waste Reduction Educator Program blends classroom learning with hands-on tours of local facilities. Participants receive specialized training in waste prevention, composting, recycling, and materials management, gaining the skills and confidence to teach others and drive measurable change. Graduates serve as trusted educators and advocates, leading outreach in neighborhoods, schools, and community organizations. By sharing strategies that reduce landfill waste and conserve local resources, they help build a stronger Sarasota County for future generations.

Why this matters now

Waste reduction is one of the most immediate, local ways to protect our environment, cut costs, and strengthen community resilience.
