2022 Sustainable Communities Workshop video contest for young adults

Young adults are invited to enter the Sustainable Communities Workshop Video Contest for their chance to win $100, and more! The winners will be announced during the 17th Annual Sustainable Communities Workshop, on Nov. 01.

Create a demonstration video showing how you reused or upcycled something rather than throw it away and how that benefited you and the environment.

  • Contestants must live in Sarasota, Manatee, or Charlotte County.
  • There will be up to three winners. Only one video submission per person or group (you can enter as a team).
  • Video must be no more than 2 minutes.
  • Video must be original content. Do not use copyrighted sounds or music in your submission.
  • Video must address the stated task (above).
  • Be creative.

Video Judging

  • Content (20 points):
    • Did the video show/explain how to upcycle an item?
    • Did the contestant identify how upcycling the item benefited themselves and the environment?
    • Video is no more than 2 minutes.
  • Audio/visuals can use a variety of multimedia but should not be strictly a slideshow of images and must have been created for this contest.
  • Technical Quality (10 points):
    • Lighting: Can the subject be seen? Are they in a well-lit area?
    • Sound: Can the speaker(s) be heard? Is there excessive background noise?
    • Video Quality: Is the video stable (not shaky)?
    • Editing: Are the transitions, if used, smooth? Do they cut speakers off mid-speech?
  • Creativity (20 points):
    • Did the contestant present an innovative use of videography, editing, materials and/or ideas?
