Each year, on the third Friday in January, Sarasota County’s UF/IFAS Extension & Sustainability Dept. celebrates Florida’s State Arbor Day. Since 2018, the County’s urban forestry Extension program Treejuvenation Florida, has marked the occasion with an urban forestry scavenger hunt called TreeQuest. The scavenger hunt invites residents to go on a tree-appreciation journey in local parks and preserves, to learn first-hand the benefits trees provide to our communities, like cooler summers and cleaner water.
In 2022, we’ll be hosting our 5th annual TreeQuest. Starting Jan. 21, 2022, residents have two weeks within which to visit one of two participating locations, find the tagged trees, and submit clue answers online.
Residents can also take “selfies” they’ve taken with the trees they’ve discovered, and email them to firstname.lastname@example.org. UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County will share the photos on its Facebook page (@ufsarasotaext) to help spread the word about Florida Arbor Day and the benefits of community trees.
To participate in TreeQuest, visit one of the locations below, from 1/21/22 to 2/04/22, and submit clue answers using the clue submission form link. Note: the clue submission form link will be activated on Florida Arbor Day, Jan. 21, 2022, will remain active for 2 weeks, and will be deactivated on Feb. 4, 2022. See the links below for location information and clue submission details.
