Energize for Exercise

Getting geared up for exercise takes brain and muscle power. The food you eat helps fuel your body for that brisk walk, play date with the kids or grandchildren or Zumba class with friends. Your food choices will either provide long lasting energy or make you feel sluggish, unmotivated, and tired.

Oatmeal, brown rice, quinoa, and legumes are great examples of complex carbohydrates. Protein-rich foods coupled with complex carbohydrates blend perfectly for a great foundation, providing great sources of energy before beginning your activities.

Protein rich foods can include lean meats, like chicken breast, fish, eggs, beans, peanuts and sunflower seeds. Energy that lasts through your activities and after is important to provide motivation and sense of accomplishment that will continue to grow with each activity. When your body is physically active, you improve your state of mind, self esteem and self confidence. Staying physically active and being properly nourished are two of the most important things we can do to stay healthy.
