Media Alert: Food Week at UF

WHEN: October 17 – 21

WHERE: Various locations on the UF campus. Visit the Food Week 2022 website for a full schedule of activities and locations.

ABOUT: Food Week is an annual event hosted by the UF/IFAS food science and human nutrition department that engages the UF and Gainesville community in food-themed demonstrations, taste testing and even a cooking competition.

The event aims to raise awareness about food science research and professional opportunities in the field. Now is a great time to get into food science, as there are currently more food science job openings than there are graduates to fill them.

Each day of Food Week includes hands-on activities, including:

  • Coffee roasting demonstration (with free coffee)
  • Taste-testing blueberry varieties, kombucha and flavored carbonated soda (AKA Gator Bubbly)
  • Master Chef-style cooking competition (includes a secret twist!)
  • Ice cream-making demo and ice cream social
  • A public poster session where students will showcase the diversity of research in food science and human nutrition at UF
  • And much more

The week will also include a celebration of World Food Day on October 17, with a speaker panel hosted by the UF/IFAS Global Food Systems Institute.

Media contact: If you plan to cover any Food Week activities, please contact Samantha Murray, grenrosa@ufl.edu, 949-735-1076.
