Welcome to the UF Food Science and Human Nutrition Department, 2025 Edition!

It’s time to get out your calendars, because we have another exciting year coming up in the FSHN Department. From new faces and groundbreaking research, to the Eighth Annual UF/FSHN Food Week and annual tailgate, this year’s events promise career exploration, fulfilling friendships, and the pursuit of learning. Read on to discover what’s new this year!

Kick Off the School Year with Our Annual Tailgate

The annual FSHN Alumni and Friends Tailgate is almost here! On September 6 from 12pm to 3pm, join students, faculty, staff, and alumni in the FSHN/Aquatic Food Products Lab Courtyard, located outside the FSHN building. Bring your appetite: we have fresh food from the grill as well as sides, snacks, and cold beverages–and it’s all free! Kickoff for the highly anticipated game between the University of Florida and the University of South Florida is at 4:15pm, so get ready to cheer on the Gators!

Are You Ready for Food Week 2025?

From October 13th to 16th, join us for Food Week 2025 and learn about the science of coffee roasting, the process of fermentation, the latest FSHN research, and more while enjoying sample of coffee, kombucha, and Gator Bubbly. In addition, explore majors in DieteticsFood Science, and Nutritional Sciences and meet some of the most innovative people in these fields.

  • The Science of Coffee: coffee roasting demonstration, science talk, and samples – FSHN Courtyard

Tuesday, October 14th

  • Donut University – FSHN Pilot Plant
  • Carbonation and Fermentation of Beverages: Gator Bubbly and kombucha samples – Reitz Union

Wednesday, October 15th

  • Food is Medicine Demonstrations: recipes and samples – FSHN Pilot Plant

Mark Your Calendars with More Exciting Events

The FSHN Department will join a few more social and career events this fall. Come visit us!

  • CALS Loves You a Brunch: This event for incoming first year and transfer students is hosted by the Dean’s Office. Check in at the McCarty D building and visit us in the courtyard outside the FSHN building on Wednesday, August 20 from 9am to 12pm.
  • New Graduate Student Orientation: The FSHN Department welcomes new graduate students on Friday, August 29 from 10am to 12pm! Check in is at 9:45am in the FSHN Courtyard (FSN on the campus map).
  • The FSHN Club is hosting a welcome event on Wednesday, September 3 from 4pm to 6pm in the FSHN Courtyard. Stop by, enjoy some free yummy treats, and learn more about the FSHN Department’s premier club!
  • The Annual Pre-health Kick Off event, hosted by UF Student Success and Pre-Health Advising, is free to attend and will feature breakout sessions from each professional school at UF (medical, dental, pharmacy, and more!) Join us on Thursday, September 11 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom.
