In the FSHN Department, we’re gearing up for another fulfilling year of classes, research, academic endeavors, special events, the annual tailgate, and more. Read on to discover what’s new this year!

Join Us For Our Annual Tailgate

The FSHN Alumni and Friends Tailgate is back! Stop by on September 14th at 12pm in the FSHN Aquatic Food Products Lab Courtyard the celebrate the 18th annual FSHN Alumni and Friends Tailgate. To fuel up for an epic game between the Gators and Texas A&M, enjoy hanging out with FSHN Department faculty, staff, and students while chowing down on FREE food fresh from the grill as well as sides, snacks, and cold beverages. Come celebrate this tailgate with us!

Food Week 2024 Offers Food, Fun, and Free Coffee

Food Week 2024 is almost here! This annual event showcases the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department programs, innovative research, and professional opportunities. During this event, we provide opportunities to explore majors in DieteticsFood Science, and Nutritional Sciences. Join us to sample free foods and beverages while learning about the science behind them. You will also enjoy social events and a student organization fair.

This exciting week will begin with a coffee roasting demonstration on Monday, October 14th and end with the Chili Cookout Fundraiser on Thursday, October 17th. See the preliminary schedule below.

Monday October 14th

  • Coffee roasting demonstration and science talk (9:30am – 11:30am) – FSHN Courtyard
  • Free Coffee bar (9:00am – 12:00pm) – FSHN Courtyard
  • Sensory Lab Taste Panel (9:30am -12:00pm) – 120 Building
  • Food Week Kickoff Table (8:30am – 12:00pm) – 120 Building lawn

Tuesday, October 15th

  • Donut University (registration required)
  • First Magnitude Brewery (5:00pm)
  • First Magnitude Brewery Trivia Night (7:00pm)

Wednesday, October 16th

  • Free Kombucha Samples (10:00am -2:00pm) – Reitz Union Breezeway
  • Free Gator Bubbly Samples (10:00am – 2:00pm) – Reitz Union Breezeway
  • Field and Fork Farm Event (on the farm across from Lake Alice)
    • Student Engagement Club Fair (3:00pm -4:30pm)
    • Farm Tour (4:30pm)
    • Picnic on the Farm (5:30pm – receive ticket from the Club Fair or Farm Tour)

Thursday, October 17th

  • FSHN Department Research Symposium (11:30am – 12:30pm) – FSHN Courtyard
  • Chili Cookoff Fundraiser (11:30am – 1:30pm) – FSHN Courtyard
  • Cookout (11:30am – 1:30pm) – FSHN Courtyard

More Events to Add to Your Calendar

In recruiting news, Pepsi Co. is visiting on September 23rd and 24th for their annual internship and job recruiting as well as their product development presentation. Kraft-Heinz will be visiting September 11th at the FSHN Club meeting (location TBD) for a recruiting presentation.

Upgraded Doors Give the Department a New Look

Last but definitely not least, the FSHN Department’s doors had an upgrade! Over the summer, the doors surrounding the front and back lobbies were spruced up to catch the eye while making it easier to find the building. Check out the results below, and if you are on campus, stop by and see the upgrade in-person.
