Calling locals – from farmers to foodies!
I am excited to announce some upcoming opportunities to learn and connect with practitioners in your local Central Florida food system.
First up is a UF/IFAS Extension-led event called the Local Growers Network. Your Central Florida Extension Agents will present an overview of farming considerations. Topics will include aspects of the food system, business planning basics, selecting appropriate crops for your goals, livestock considerations, pest problems, and regulations impacting small farms in Florida. There will be opportunities to network and hear from local farmers on a panel. This event will be great for beginning farmers while also providing some considerations for experienced producers to level up.

Next up is the Local Food Symposium, which is a collaboration event with Florida Organic Growers and UF/IFAS Extension Orange County. Part of a USDA grant, the Florida Local Foods Project aims to better connect Florida’s agricultural bounty with… Floridians! Local farmers, food entrepreneurs, planners, and Extension Agents will lead dynamic talks highlighting successes and teaching each other new ideas to increase community resilience through food systems. There will be opportunities to network and hear from professionals supporting the local food community. This event will be a celebration of local food, with those looking to connect and grow opportunities for local foods in Florida.
