It’s Not Too Soon to Think about 4-H Summer Camp

Have you started thinking about summer camps for your school-aged kids? Spring break is around the corner and that is the peak time when camps start recruiting for summer enrollment and families are planning summer vacations. The Orange County 4-H Program has four amazing camp opportunities for your children that are worth scheduling into your busy summer plans.

4-H Summer Day Camps

In the month of June, children ages 9-12 can participate in either our Healthy Kids Camp (June 8-12), S.T.E.M. Camp (June 22-26), or both! 4-H Healthy Kids Camp uses fun and engaging activities to encourage kids to choose healthy foods, be more active, spend time outdoors and appreciate nature. 4-H S.T.E.M. camp gives campers the opportunity to participate in hands-on projects that focus on the letters in S.T.E.M.: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Each day includes a snack and time dedicated to being active or participating in team challenges. Sessions are led by UF/IFAS faculty and others that are experts in the topics being taught. Camp takes place Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and costs $75.00, which includes snacks and supplies. Registration will open in early March for up to 25 youth per week on a first-come first-served basis. For photos of past camps, please click Camp Photo Gallery.

If you have a middle school-aged child (10-13), we now have something new and exciting for them as well! Sustainability Camp will introduce campers to practices that can help them become sustainability champions and maybe even develop skills to survive the zombie apocalypse! The 3-day camp will lead the campers through environmentally friendly experiences and practices that can be continued at home and into the future. Dates for 4-H Sustainability camp are Monday, June 29 through Wednesday, July 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. each day. Registration will open in early March and the cost will be $45.00.

4-H Camp Cloverleaf

If your camper is ready for the full immersion experience, 4-H Camp Cloverleaf is the camp for you. Orange County 4-H will join other central Florida counties at Camp Cloverleaf in Sebring during the week of July 13-17, 2020. Campers will arrive on Monday and depart on Friday for 5 days of “unplugged” adventures including swimming, kayaking, archery, environmental education, outdoor skills, crafts, campfires, skits, games, challenges, friendships and much more. Camp is open to youth ages 8-13 and registration will open in March through Florida 4-H online. The cost of camp is $275.00, with a $50.00 deposit required at registration. Transportation will be provided at no cost to the first 10 youth registered.

Not sure about sleep-away camp? If you and your camper want to see what camp is like in advance, we are offering Camp for a Day on Monday, March 16th during spring-break. The cost of the one-day experience is $50.00, which includes charter bus transportation, all activities and lunch.
