Did you know that Orange TV has been interviewing UF/IFAS Extension Orange County’s faculty and volunteers for 26 years for educational content?
UF/IFAS Emeritus Extension Agents Celeste White and Tom MacCubbin began Extension Solutions as co-hosts in 1997. The show provides up-to-date information on horticulture, agriculture, nutrition, financial management, and 4-H Youth Development topics. These interview style segments are typically 3 – 4 minutes each and encompass hands-on learning.
Orange TV began in 1995 and produces programming that spotlights government services, activities, and issues in addition to educational programming. The reach with cable alone is over 450,000 in homes but can also be accessed anytime on the internet through their YouTube channel.
In 2019, Orange TV received the Bronze Telly Award in the general television category for the production of the Extension Solutions program. According to the Telly Awards, they showcase “the best work created within television and across video, for all screens. Receiving over 12,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents, Telly Award winners represent work from some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers from around the world.”
Every three months, faculty and volunteers will either head to the studios or another spot in Orange County to film their segments. Extension Agent JK Yarborough has done a segment on cow-calf operations, Extension Agent Jenny Rodriguez has done a segment on the RentWise program, and I’ve even made healthy cinnamon applesauce pancakes with Extension Agent Jana Anderson. This production gives us another opportunity to reach and educate the underserved populations who could watch them at their convenience.
If you would like to watch Extension Solutions, they air monthly on the following channels:
- Channel 488 on Spectrum
- Channel 9 on Comcast
- 1081 CenturyLink Prism TV
- And on YouTube. A compiled playlist can be found here and here.
