Learn, grow and connect with UF/IFAS Extension Broward Master Gardener Program at the Nov. 9 open house

There is something for everyone at UF/IFAS Extension Broward County. Whether it’s finding the right 4-H youth activity, growing your garden, training to be an arborist or needing an expert to diagnose your landscape woes, UF/IFAS Extension Broward County has that and more with all your resources under one roof.

On Nov. 9, UF/IFAS Extension Broward County, at 3245 College Ave., in Davie, will host a Master Gardener open house from 9 a.m. to noon. This public event will offer a firsthand look at the array of services available through extension, showcasing the Master Gardener Volunteer Program.

Participants can engage in question-and-answer sessions, meet the staff and faculty, learn about Master Gardener classes and programs and even take home some giveaways.

“At UF/IFAS Extension Broward County, we’re not just about plants and agriculture – we’re about growing communities. Whether you’re a seasoned Master Gardener or just starting to explore your green thumb, our doors are open to all,” said Noelle Guay, interim director at UF/IFAS Extension Broward County. “This open house is a wonderful opportunity to discover the wealth of resources and expertise we offer, from educational programs to landscape diagnostics. We’re here to help Broward residents thrive, one seed of knowledge at a time.”

Since 1939, UF/IFAS Extension Broward County has been a vital resource for South Florida residents, offering educational outreach and informative programs led by faculty and staff at University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS).

UF/IFAS Extension continues to provide essential services and knowledge to the community, ensuring that the core mission of educating and supporting local citizens remains as relevant and necessary today as it was over 80 years ago.

Here is what to expect:

  • Engage in demonstrations and presentations showcasing UF/IFAS Extension Services.
  • Explore the resources of Extension and engage with the experts who lead the UF/IFAS Extension Broward Help Desk.
  • Learn how the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) Program promotes sustainable landscaping practices and you can apply it to your property.
  • Explore the range of gardening and landscaping classes, workshops and consultation services available from the Urban Horticulture Education Program.
  • Join the Water Ambassador Program and learn conservation practices for your home and community that save you money while conserving the environment.
  • Get an overview of the Master Gardener Volunteer Program.
  • Meet some of your local master gardeners (MGVs), learn about their role in communities.
  • Discover the benefits of becoming an MGV and how to get involved.
  • Take part in the free gardening demonstrations featuring how to build a butterfly garden, tips on vegetable gardening in South Florida, the secret to growing native orchids and Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ tips and resources.
  • Discover the range of services offered to the community and how MGVs contribute to horticulture education.
  • Take advantage of the event’s networking opportunities by connecting with fellow gardening enthusiasts and local experts.
