Congratulations to our new Wakulla County Extension Director, Samantha Kennedy!
Director for the UF/IFAS Wakulla County Extension program
Although Samantha is taking on a new role as the Director for the UF/IFAS Wakulla County Extension program, she is no stranger to the University of Florida, Wakulla County, or the Extension Service. With over 25 years of involvement as a student or faculty member for UF, she brings a world of practical experience into her new role.
Microbiology, Cell Science, Nutritional Sciences, Agriculture Education and Communication
Samantha received her B.S. degree from UF in 2000 with a focus on Microbiology, Cell Science and Nutritional Sciences (Wow!). She did not waste any time getting into a Graduate degree program following this achievement. In 2002, she received her M.S. degree in the area of Agriculture Education and Communication. She has served as a Family and Consumer Sciences Agent and now, a County Extension Director in both Manatee and Wakulla Counties.

Throughout her career she has been involved with helping clientele in the areas of diabetes, healthy living, nutrition, cooking with herbs, cheese making, home canning, volunteer income tax assistance, and many more topics to enrich people’s daily lives. She excels in hands-on instruction and demonstration due to her congenial nature and participants in her program do have fun.
Personal Note
On a personal note, Samantha was born in Central Michigan but has spent the majority of her life in several locales around Florida. She did a short stint in Arkansas as a child and lived in Texas for two years following graduate school but once she got that Florida sand in her shoes, she could not stay away. She also has something in common with one of my daughters. She loves baseball and is on a mission to visit all 30 Major League parks, with 18 checked off her list so far!

The citizens of Wakulla County are truly fortunate to have Samantha, with her outstanding suite of skills, stepping into this important leadership role in the Wakulla County Extension office. Her colleagues in Extension around the region and state welcome her in her new role and appreciate her contributions to achieving our Extension mission: “making the resources of the University accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life.” Go Gators and Go Samantha!
