Lake County 4-H Volunteers

Lake County 4-H boasts over 100 adult volunteers who willingly donate their time to execute the mission of the UF/IFAS Extension 4-H Youth Development Program. 4-H volunteers share their skills and experiences to develop a new generation of confident, young leaders. There are many opportunities to serve as a Lake County 4-H volunteer; these positions include club organizational leader, activity/project leader, Lake County 4-H Association member, and episodic volunteers.

Club Organizational Leaders

Club Organizational Leaders run community and after-school clubs. This type of volunteer is responsible for the club’s organization, club operations, informing club members of 4-H activities, and primary contact with the county Extension office. Club leaders set annual goals, meet regularly with members, and help youth participate/complete projects. Club leaders dedicate about 10-15 hours monthly and put a lot of effort into their club’s success. They also deal more closely with youth members can make a more considerable impact on helping youth become successful adults/leaders.

Club Activity/Project Leaders

Activity/project leaders are another way to volunteer with Lake County 4-H. These volunteers assist the club with teaching youth project-specific information for a designated period. Project/activity leaders are responsible for teaching 4-H youth members about animal science, gardening, STEM, consumer sciences, and shooting sports. They help youth members by supporting them to participate in meaningful educational experiences at the club level.

Association Members

Lake County 4-H Association Members help determine programs, areas of improvement and fundraise for youth scholarships. These volunteers contribute to the county program’s overall success by putting input in determining program priorities and assisting with program expansion and review. Association members attend quarterly meetings, ensure business is conducted in the best interest of all county 4-H members, and serve as a Lake County 4-H representative at local events.

Episodic Volunteers

Episodic volunteers can serve periodically for special 4-H events. There are many opportunities for volunteers to judge events. Adult volunteer judges are needed to grade project books, speaking events, and art shows. This is a critical piece of making 4-H a success as judges help youth members learn to recognize their accomplishments in their project work and evaluate their performance.
