Florida Master Naturalist Program Course Manuals Available

Are you a graduate of the Florida Master Naturalist Program (FMNP)?

You might be interested to know that during 2023-24 we released newly revised and updated versions of our three FMNP core courses: Coastal, Freshwater, and Upland Systems. We’ve added new information and eliminated overlap among the courses, which have received excellent reviews from participants. We encourage you to consider re-taking the core FMNP courses but are also making the revised core and all other FMNP course manuals available for purchase by FMNP graduates. So, if you’ve previously taken one of the core FMNP courses and would like to have a revised manual, or if you completed one of our other FMNP courses and did not purchase a color, hardcopy manual but would like to have one, you can order manuals here: FMNP manual order form. Note that this offer is only available to FMNP graduates for courses they have previously completed.

New to the FMNP? The FMNP is a fun and rewarding learning experience available to anyone and everyone 18-years and older who is interested in learning about Florida’s natural world. Whether you are a novice simply interested in learning more about nature or a professional wanting to expand your knowledge into new areas, the FMNP has something for you.

The FMNP has three separate course series. FMNP Core Courses are 40-contact hours and detail Florida’s principal environments and the diverse array of plants and animals those environments support. The FMNP Land Steward and Restoration series are shorter (24-contact hours), more focused courses that provide detailed information on topics ranging from environmental interpretation to coastal shoreline restoration. FMNP course information describing the 11 different courses and current course offerings, including detailed agendas and schedules, is available on the FMNP website. Note that FMNP courses are available in three formats: as 100% in-person courses, as online lectures with in-person field trips, or as 100% online courses that include self-directed field trips discussed online with the class. All FMNP courses are taught by certified FMNP instructors. Are you an educator interested in teaching FMNP courses? Information about FMNP instructor requirements, benefits, and how to apply to become an FMNP instructor are available on the FMNP website.

Sound interesting? With more than 20 years of FMNP courses having been offered and approximately 20,000 FMNP graduate certificates issued, our history of success speaks to the quality of the FMNP experience. And, by becoming an FMNP graduate, you will be joining people from all over Florida who are striving to learn more, share more, and do more to promote knowledge and interest in Florida’s natural world. In the words of FMNP graduates:

“Best thing I have ever done. I have learned so much, met so many wonderful people, and found meaningful ways to get involved.” – Ellen Elliotuote, volunteer

“I’ve seen the elements of prime citizen science come alive in my own classroom after integrating principles and concepts I learned while in the course program.” – Mary Crider, teacher

“FMNP allowed me to move from an enthusiastic volunteer and transition into a professional paid with notable contributions. Worth more than what I could have originally asked for!” – Irene Eva Ries, professional
