Record Books are a vital part of the 4-H experience. This year, Glades County 4-H is using Project Journals to enhance members’ record-keeping skills. You should have received your Project Journal at your September or October meeting. To make it easier to complete your project journal, work on it each month. Your Glades County Project Journal gives you two options. You can either complete the paper journal or use your smartphone to scan the QR code and fill out the information online.
For October, you should work on the following tasks/pages:
- Page 1 – Title Page
- The “Title Page” should be filled out first thing when you receive our project journal. This way, if you happen to misplace your project journal, it can be returned to you.
- Page 6 – Getting Started
- The “Getting Started” page guides you through writing a SMART goal for your project this year. It is a step-by-step guide that allows you to create your SMART goal by answering five simple questions.
- Page 7 – My Project Record
- This page allows you to share information about your project, including why you chose your project, what you hope to get better at, and allows you to think about what a successful project will look like.
- Page 8 – September/October Check-in
- This page allows you to think about your project, what you have learned, what may not have gone as planned, something you are proud of, and what you plan on working on next.
- Page 12 – Monthly Feed Journal
- Your “Monthly Feed Journal” allows you to think about how you are feeding your project animal. It will ask you about the percentage of protein you are feeding, the number of pounds of feed you are feeding per day, whether you have had to change feeds, if you are using any supplements, and what a bag of feed costs you.
- Page 24 – My Year in Pics – Beginning of the Project
- You will be asked for 2 pictures of your beginning project, and a caption that explains what is happening in the photo. This is the beginning of your project, and your pictures should reflect that. They can be when you first brought your project home, or pictures of you getting ready for your project, such as making needed pen repairs or upgrades.
While these are the main pages to focus on in October, don’t forget to fill in page 18 with any health-related issues with your project animal. You can also fill out the cost of your animal on page 19. Throughout the year, you will need to update your supply list and weight record.
Other tips include reviewing page 2 to understand how to communicate effectively with your club leader and stay informed about all club activities. Pages 3 and 4 hold important information to review, including the 4-H pledge, mission, vision, and code of conduct. Finally, page 5 has some state events that may interest you.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Tycee or your 4-H Leader. All contact information can be found on page 2 of your project journal.
