A New SWFREC Dormitory

Located in Immokalee, Florida, the UF/IFAS Southwest Florida Research & Education Center (SWFREC) serves growers, farmers, and community members in Collier, Charlotte, Glades, Hendry, and Lee counties. Faculty direct graduate student research on vegetable and citrus crops, pesticides, precision agriculture and soil and weed science. This student research is often significant to agricultural producers; however, a major obstacle to recruiting graduate students to SWFREC is the lack of dormitory space.

SWFREC has 16 graduate students but only eight dorm spaces. We are fundraising to build a new graduate student dormitory, which will consist of eight bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a common kitchen and living area.

Construction is estimated to cost $550,000. Thanks to UF/IFAS and support from private donors and the Southwest Florida Research & Education Foundation, we only need $43,127 more by June 30 to begin construction in summer of 2019.

Please consider making a tax-deductible gift today by clicking here to give online or by sending a check, payable to the UF Foundation, Inc., to UF/IFAS Advancement, PO Box 110170, Gainesville, FL 32611.

  • Gifts of $1,000+ will be recognized on a wall in the dormitory
  • Naming opportunities are available: $30,000 to name an individual dorm room, $250,000 to name the entire dormitory
  • Gifts may be completed over a 2-3 year period, with first pledge payment made before June 30
  • Gifts to this project are counted as part of the University of Florida’s Go Greater Capital Campaign

Thank you for your consideration. For more information, please contact UF/IFAS Advancement at (352) 392-1975 | advancement@ifas.ufl.edu
