National Nutrition Month: Beyond the Table

This year’s National Nutrition Month® theme is “Beyond the Table,” which addresses the farm-to-fork aspect of nutrition, from food production and distribution to navigating grocery stores and farmers markets. It also describes the various ways we eat and includes sustainability. https://www.eatright.org/national-nutrition-month

National Nutrition Month® is held annually in March. It is celebrated from March 1st to the 31st. This annual campaign and celebration was established in 1973 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March, everyone is invited to learn about making informed food choices, developing healthful eating, and incorporating physical activity habits for a lifetime.

UF/IFAS Broward Extension Family and Consumer Sciences is joining in this campaign since we also promote the same healthy messages. Proper nutrition, adequate hydration, engaging in physical activity, getting enough sleep, and practicing food safety in your home are all important to self-care and a healthy lifestyle.

Throughout March, celebrate #NationalNutritionMonth by going Beyond the Table! Engage in the farm-to-fork aspect of nutrition and explore the various ways and places we eat. Learn cooking, food preparation, and meal planning skills. Navigate grocery stores and farmers markets to find nutritious choices. Use a grocery list and shop sales when purchasing food to ease the strain on your budget. Practice home food safety and use recommended storage practices. There are various ways we eat — not only around a dinner table, but also on the go, in schools and restaurants, at work, at games, and other events. Bring healthy snack choices with you. Make ½ of your plate fruits and vegetables. Decrease food waste.
