Short Description Summarizing Position: Full-time, 100%, (12-month), renewable appointment (contingent on funding) in Integrative Immunology and Behavior.

The Department of Animal Sciences seeks a highly motivated individual to join a team studying how age and diet affect the gut-brain-axis and neuroinflammation. The successful candidate will utilize mouse models to analyze how dietary fiber, short chain fatty acids and intestinal free fatty acid receptors interact to modulate microglial immune status.

Responsibilities include:
• Experiment design, implementation and sample analysis
• Management of conventional and transgenic mouse colonies
• Data analysis, report preparation and manuscript preparation
• Supervise undergraduate students and interact with graduate students
• Collection of data and completion of all duties must adhere to scientific and safety protocols

Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Biology, Animal Sciences, Immunology, Nutrition, or a closely related field. Must be able to work legally in the U.S. Excellent writing, communication, and statistical skills are necessary. A commitment to research, and an ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.

Preferred Skills: Experience with transgenic mouse models, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and neuroanatomy are preferred.

Interest in dietary effects on immune system and behavior is preferred.

Proposed Start Date: As soon as possible after close date.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Location: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
