Description:

The Horticulture Agent plans, develops, teaches, implements, teaches and evaluates comprehensive and diverse educational programs for commercial clientele and citizens. Program areas of emphasis include 1) environmental landscape management (both homeowner and commercial), using Green Industries Best Management Practices and Florida Friendly Landscaping principles, and 2) commercial and homeowner production of ornamentals, turf, vegetables, herbs, fruits, and nuts, with a strong emphasis on sustainability. The agent will manage the demonstration gardens according to Florida Friendly Landscaping principles.

The agent will serve as the educator and coordinator for the county Master Gardener volunteer program. This program requires excellent interpersonal skills and volunteer management experience. The Horticulture Agent will work with other faculty, agencies, businesses and organizations on cooperative educational programs to improve the quality of life for local citizens. The agent will develop and maintain an advisory committee to assist with program design and client needs, collaborate with others to acquire grants, assist/lead interdisciplinary projects, provide service to the 4H Youth Development program and schools, develop creative works (presentations, posters, slide shows, website and social media development, media, etc.) and write non-technical people-friendly publications. The agent will assume other duties as assigned by the County Extension Director and the District Extension Director.
