Sarasota 4-H County Council and Club Updates – October 2025

Club Updates

4-Paws:

  • The club began the meeting at about 4:08 and previewed the bylaws following previous changes.
  • Discussed baskets for auction and the Sachels Dog shelter project.
  • Reviewed budgeting for the year and set club goals: community service and at least one kid-led service project.
  • Scheduled a fundraiser for October 25th.

All Star Lucky Clovers:

  • Members successfully voted into office their officer positions.
  • Plant forms were filled out and turned in for the upcoming fair.
  • Went over previous bylaws and made changes.

Legacy Clovers:

  • The club met Tuesday, October 7 at the 4-h extension office and called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.
  • Started with speakers from Florida Department of Agriculture and consumer services sharing animal safety tips for the season.
  • Reviewed show clinics members attended and made reminders of due dates and upcoming events.
  • Held elections and congratulated new officers: president, vice president, secretary, treasure, historian, safety officer, Chaplin, surge at arms, reporter.
  • Meeting adjourned at 8:30pm, and members enjoyed donuts brought by the club leader.

Nature Care Club:

  • They introduced the club and moved into detailed planning and projects.
  • Sat down to discuss plant plots, upcoming meetings, bylaws, and related things.
  • Reviewed project ideas: a succulent garden, paintings, and a roller coaster build.

Booker Middle School

  • Deciding on community project for school, leaning towards beautification of the campus.
  • Club decided on a plant project for the fair, decided on representative.
  • Tried out some fun games for icebreakers.

County Council

October 9, 2025, marked a County Council meeting called to order by the acting president. They approved the previous minutes, discussed clarifying the balance in the budget, and heard an SAA club report from the Nature Care Club. Goals for the 4-H year included increasing youth participation, improving communication, adding decorations and project displays, and growing funds; they also discussed bringing a second representative from the SAA club. The meeting was adjourned.

Upcoming Events

  • October 23, 2025 – Sarasota 4-H Officer Training, 6:30pm at Extension office.
  • October 24-26, 2025 – Florida 4-H 1st Executive Board, registration closes 10/13, https://florida4h.ifas.ufl.edu/events/citizenship–leadership-events/executive-board/ .
  • November 1, 2025 – Sarasota County Agricultural Fair Plant Screening – 8am
  • November 3, 2025 – Club organizational form, budget and by-laws due to 4-H.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available to apply for summer camps. While they are closed now for Summer 2025, it’s never too early to be in the know about opportunities for Summer 2026. Applications open November 1st and are distributed in a ‘first-come, first-serve’ manner. Save this link for when it is time to apply.
