November 2023 Updates
4-H County Council met on November 9th. Here is what was discussed:
- CAPE Tree Planting at the MGV Plant Sale was successful. Four pollinator trees have been planted around the office.
- Parent’s Night Out was planned. Join us on Friday, December 16th for a night of fun and crafts for youth ages 5-12. Registration and more details are on 4-H Online. Tickets are $10 for 4-H youth and $20 for non 4-H youth.
- December County Council meeting will include a holiday celebration. All 4-H youth are invited to attend. Sign-up to bring a dish to share here (bringing a dish to share is not required). Drinks and chicken tenders will be provided. Email jdrake@scgov.net if you have any questions.
- Future volunteer opportunities were discussed. Possible opportunity with the MGV radio program. More details to come.
Club Updates
- Legacy Clovers met on Tuesday and planned a holiday party, turned in fundraiser money, and had a butterfly pea tea activity to learn about pH.
- 4Paws practiced dog training, filled out State Fair Forms and Sarasota County Fair forms. They also talked about a dog scholarship opportunity and took plants for screening for the County Fair on Saturday.
- Moo Crew learned about cows and had a meeting at Dakin Dairy on Sunday to learn about the dairy industry and dairy cows.
- Action Clovers discussed Community Pride Grant plans, projects for the year and had an activity where they learned about decorating baked goods by piping icing.
October 2023 Updates
4-H County Council met on October 12th. Here is what was discussed:
- Successful outreach event at Detwiler’s, collected donations
- CAPE Pollinator trees were planted on October 14th during the Master Gardner Plant Sale
- District IX Meeting was held October 8th on Zoom. They discussed in-person Fall meeting and set SMART goals.
- Discussed having a Parent’s Night Out fundraising event on December 15th. More details coming soon.

Club Updates
- Moo Crew went over the leasing agreement for dairy cows, upcoming events, and important deadlines.
- 4Paws split into group to train dogs, had a fundraiser at Nature Explorations (part of Take a Child Outside Week), will have a fundraiser at Applebee’s on Oct. 21, and will have a concession stand fundraiser at the MGV Plant Sale.
- Legacy Clovers had a field trip at a vineyard where they learned about grapes, agritourism and more. They also held elections, learned about steak, and will be selling Der Dutchman Pies and poinsettias.
- All Star Lucky Clovers – We have been meeting twice a month and working on plants to be submitted to the Fair. We have nine youth who will be exhibiting plants.
- Booker Middle School – We have been meeting several times a month and stepping through STEM activities. We are excited to recruit new members and planning to choose projects to submit to the fair.
September 2023 Updates

- Volunteering at the Plant Sale held at the UF/IFAS Extension Office on Oct. 14.

Club updates
- 4Paws meeting was mainly a business meeting discussing plans for the year. Amarylis H. & Leilani H. led training sessions and older members paired with younger members to practice dog training.
- Miakka Allstock had their elections at their last meeting and had an arts & crafts activity.
- Action Clovers held their elections, discussed projects, and had a science activity where they learned about acids and bases.
- Moo Crew has not met at this time and their first meeting is in early October.
- Legacy Clovers had their first every meeting where they voted on club name, discussed upcoming events, and broke into groups for different activities.
