StrongBodies Program

StrongBodies is a 10-week exercise program for middle aged and older men and women.

Each class includes progressive weight training, flexibility, and balance activities.The class meets twice a week for about 60 minutes and goes through a routine of exercises using dumbbells and ankle weights. This program has been proven to reduce risk for chronic diseases such as, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis and some types of cancer. The StrongBodies program increases muscle mass, bone density, and ability to do activities of daily living.

This program was developed by Dr. Miriam Nelson, director at the John Hancock Research Center on Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity Prevention and Professor of Nutrition at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. The original program, titled, StrongWomen, was designed for middle aged and older women; however, it has since been proven to be beneficial for all individuals. StrongWomen is now StrongBodies.

There will be an informational meeting March 5, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at the Putnam County –  UF IFAS Extension office.

The StrongBodies class will be starting in Putnam County on April 2, 2018. It will meet most Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 1 p.m. – 2 the Putnam County – UF IFAS Extension office. The cost is $25.00 for the 10-week class.

  1. Purchase your ticket on Eventbrite. This reserves your spot in the class. Class space is limited to 10 participants.
  2. Complete the enrollment forms that will be emailed to you after the Eventbrite receipt has been received.
  3. A confirmation of your registration will be confirmed once both the registration and enrollment forms have been received and approved.
