What: Dozens of students from TERRA Environmental Research Institute and the Mahogany Youth Corporation will spend a day offshore learning about reef fisheries and responsible angling with Florida Sea Grant. Aboard the 60-foot vessel, “Reward Won,” docked at Bayside Marketplace, located at 401 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, students will experience fishing firsthand while completing the Florida Friendly Angler program, a free online course designed to promote best practices in conservation.
The trip takes place on a Miami-Dade County Public Schools teacher in-service day, turning a rare day off into a hands-on lesson in responsible fishing, natural resource conservation, ocean reef stewardship and much more.
When: Nov. 3, Boat departs at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Reward Fishing Fleet – Bayside Marketplace;
401 Biscayne Blvd., Miami.
What to expect: This event offers striking visuals of students fishing offshore of Miami — some for the very first time. On a rare school holiday, these middle and high schoolers are trading a day off for a hands-on lesson in marine conservation.
Reporters and photographers can also interview students, educators and program leaders to capture the story behind the excitement.
