Lake County garden tour research study to evaluate tour efficacy

UF/IFAS Extension Lake County is pleased to announce new educational tours in the Discovery Garden. With these new tours, we are conducting a research study that tour participants are encouraged to take part in. We are located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares, Florida.

Discovery Gardens’ mission is to create an outstanding visitor experience through their well-designed botanical garden, to be a facility for hands-on training, to promote conservation of natural resources by demonstrating environmentally friendly practices for gardening and landscaping, to provide a focal point for all local groups and people interested in horticulture and to support programs in horticulture, gardening, landscape design and natural resource management.

The research study aims to look at the educational effectiveness of these audio and self-guided tours around the botanical garden. Participation in the pre- and post-tour surveys is voluntary. There is no compensation for your participation. Personal information collected is kept confidential. Participants will receive a six-month and one-year post survey.

Audio and signage tours are self-paced. Bring your phone to scan the QR codes to listen to the audio tour.

Tours will be as follows: Audio tour on Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a signage tour on Monday, Nov. 27 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

For more information, please contact the lead researcher, Jamie Daugherty, residential horticulture agent, at jdaugherty@ufl.edu.
