Virtual Showcase of 4-H County Events 2020

As most Nassau County 4-H’ers already know, County Events 2020 has been postponed indefinitely as a result of the Covid-19 virus spreading around the county and the world. Unfortunately, all of the youth who worked so hard on their various presentations, photos and musical acts weren’t able to perform in front of a live audience and a panel of judges.

In keeping with these difficult times, where most people are sticking as close to home as possible, I think it would be a fun and productive initiative to have all or some of the youth who were already signed up to participate in County Events to create videos at home of their public speaking, share the fun, illustrated talks, or photo exhibits. The youth can then post their videos on our YouTube channel so that they can practice and get feedback from peers and the public on their videos. This is also a great way for participants to see themselves perform so that they can get another level of perspective on their performance. It really will help to improve public speaking skills.

This Virtual Showcase is open to any 4-H member. All you need to do is film your video using a cell phone and send me your video at tkarsch@ufl.edu. With your permission, I will upload your video onto our YouTube channel and then you can have access to all of the feedback from your peers and you will also be able to watch the videos of other participants.

To get the ball rolling, I created my own Illustrated Talk, filmed it, and posted it on our channel. It’s titled “How to Prepare New Orleans Red Beans and Rice.” Please check it out on the link below and leave some comments in the comments section. Don’t forget to give me a like, if you like it! And start sending me your videos. Also, if you have any questions, just send me an email.
