Do you want to produce Certified Organic vegetables for sale, grow your own organic veggies or just learn what “organic gardening” really means? The upcoming series to be held at the Jefferson County Extension Office on January 15, 22 and 29 from 7pm to 8:30pm can do that!
University of Florida horticultural specialists will teach you the steps required to develop and implement an organic production system. Dr. Danielle Treadwell kicks off the series on January 15 with the basics of certification and nutrient management including cover crops. The second session on January 22 will address one of the biggest challenges to organic systems in our part of the world, pest management. Dr. Bob Hochmuth will wrap up the series on January 29 with coverage of cropping systems including high tunnels, drip irrigation systems and disease control.
Advance registration for the program is required. The fee for the course is $30 per person for the program notebook and refreshments. Couples can register for $45 and receive one notebook.
