Success Story: Native Butterfly Garden Breaks Ground at Carrollwood Village Park

Carrollwood Village Park is the most visited park in Hillsborough County with over 1.2 million visitors per year. Now, the park features a newly installed native butterfly garden thanks to the Viva Florida grant from the Florida Wildflower Foundation and a partnership with UF/IFAS Extension Hillsborough County.

The garden broke ground on August 10, 2023 when staff and volunteers from the park service, Florida Master Gardener program and Florida Native Plant Society joined together to plant 124 plants of 7 different species. This garden features Florida native plants such as the swamp milkweed, aster, yellow canna, Tampa verbena, coreopsis and muhly grass. These plants will provide food and habitat for butterflies, bees and other pollinators. The garden will be an educational site for residents to get ideas on native plants to integrate into their home landscapes. Find plants for your yard in our FFL book
or on our FFL plant app where you can search by zip code.
