To follow the CDC’s social distancing recommendations, the UF/IFAS Extension Hernando County will be offering two hybrid Florida Master Naturalist courses in May 2020! All presentations and homework assignments will be completed online. In-person field trips will be scheduled to take place in the Hernando and Sumter County area at a later date.

Coastal Systems Core Module
May 18 – June 1, 2020
Through a variety of online classroom discussions, videos, presentations, and homework assignments, participants will learn about the ecology, wildlife, vegetation, and conservation issues of Florida’s coastal and marine environments. Students will have the opportunity to interact and ask experts questions during Florida Sea Grant’s Bite-Sized Science webinar series and during the Zoom classroom discussions. Because this is a core module, a class project is required to graduate from this course. Students will explore coastal habitats during the three in-person field trips.

Wildlife Monitoring Specialty Topics Course
May 18 – June 9, 2020
During this course, students will learn about the different techniques used to monitor mammals, birds, frogs, and other wildlife. The course will consist of online classroom discussions, presentations, and homework assignments. Students will have the opportunity to practice monitoring techniques during three in-person field trips.
