We are thrilled to announce that the wait is finally over!
After a long vacancy, the UF/IFAS Extension DeSoto County Office is proud to welcome our new Livestock and Small Farms Agent — Kendall Gill!

Kendall was born and raised in Charlotte County, Florida. Growing up in a horticulturally based family business, she developed a strong work ethic and deep passion for networking and getting involved within her community.
She grew up around her family’s livestock endeavors, owning a small herd of cattle and horses as well as riding horses from a young age. She dove headfirst into her high school FFA chapter, where she served as FFA Chapter President for two consecutive years as well as participating in numerous competitive teams in areas such as livestock evaluations and parliamentary procedure.
She went on to attend the University of Florida, where she earned a degree in International Studies with a minor in International Development and Humanitarian Assistance, while simultaneously completing nearly three-quarters of a degree in Animal Sciences – Food Animal focused. During her time at UF, she was an active member of the livestock evaluation team, traveling around the southeast US to compete. She also received certifications in Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) and HACCP during her time at UF.
Her hands-on experience extended to working in the UF Meat Lab, where she developed expertise in meat processing and food safety. This valuable background led to her previous role with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA-FSIS) in Food Safety, where she ensured the quality and safety of meat products at local slaughterhouses and meat packaging facilities throughout North Florida.
Now a DeSoto county resident, Kendall is eager to dive in and get involved in the community. She looks forward to blending her passion for agriculture with her passion for community and networking to further serve DeSoto county in her new role as the county Livestock & Small Farms Extension Agent.
UF/IFAS Extension is directed by an Overall Advisory Committee made up of community members, agricultural producers, industry professionals, and community members. After many discussions, years of vacancy, and changing landscape in DeSoto County, the position formally tagged as Livestock has expanded its focus to include small farm operations, while continuing to support large scale livestock producers.
With a strong passion for agriculture and commitment to serving producers and landowners, Kendall brings fresh energy, valuable expertise, and a collaborative spirit to our team. Whether you’re managing cattle, exploring small-scale farming, or looking to grow your agricultural operation, Kendall is here to help support your success through research-based solutions and practical, hands-on guidance.
Please join us in giving a warm DeSoto County welcome to Kendall as she hits the ground running and helps shape the future of livestock and small farms in our community!
