Hurricane Irma roared through Collier County taking roofs, screens, signs, trees, foliage, electricity and cell phone service.
The UF IFAS Extension Collier County building was hit hard. The metal roof was ripped off, the ceiling collapsed and there was water damage throughout.
The Extension Team was quickly back to work after the storm to save the contents of the building, secure supplies and equipment in storage pods and relocate to temporary office space. They got back to the business of providing science-based, relevant program area education to the residents of Collier County.
The plans and engineering to rebuild the roof to current code on the 27 year old
Extension building is underway.
The estimated completion date for repairs and remediation of the building is January 2019.
