JBS Five Rivers Seeking Feed Yard Interns for Summer 2018

JBS Five Rivers seeking applicants for feed yard internships in all yard locations for summer 2018.

Internships at all locations are designed to provide real-life experience in all aspects of the cattle feeding industry. Interns will learn and perform the daily operations of the feed mill, feeding department, cattle department and yard operations.There are four departments in each feed yard:
  • Feed Delivery – Interns will learn to recognize various feed rations and understand their impact on cattle performance.
  • Feed Mill – Learn feed manufacturing and production. Receive commodities, maintain feed quality and manage production output.
  • Animal Health – Process cattle and learn best practices for healthy cattle management.
  • Yard Maintenance and Environment – Learn yard upkeep and environmental compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Internship rotation through Mill and Feeding, Cattle and Yard Operations. Duties will vary based on internship parameters and fulfilling needs of the feed yard.
  • May participate in department meetings and special projects as they apply to internship for the benefit of Five Rivers.
  • Coordinate projects
  • Manage difficult or emotional employee situations and adapt to changes in the work environment
  • Understand business implications of decisions
  • Work within approved budget, develop and implement cost saving measures, and conserve organizational resources
  • Exhibit sound and accurate judgment, observe safety and security procedures, and report potentially unsafe conditions.

Qualifications:

  • In progress: Undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software and Database software.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
