Alachua County Seeking Animal Services Supervisor – due May 26, 2017

The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a full-time Animal Services Supervisor that would be responsible for coordinating the daily activities of Animal Service employees and office staff.

Advertised Salary: $20.60 – $31.99 Hourly ($42,837.81 – $66,543.98 annually)


Duties Include:

  • Responsible for animal adoptions, reclaims and pick-ups
  • Examining ailing animals to determine need of services from veterinarian
  • Supervising and participating in animal cruelty investigations, working closely with humane and law enforcement agencies on incidents involving animals
  • Enforcing county animal control ordinances
  • Responding to citizen complaints
  • Maintaining the kennel and grounds
  • Ensuring adequate staffing at all times
  • Supervising and evaluating staff
  • Overseeing vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Assisting with preparation of annual budget by researching and compiling pertinent information
  • Performing related duties as required

Work is performed under the direction of the Animal Services Director and is reviewed through conferences, reports and observation of results obtained. Acts as Department Director in his/her absence.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Animal Science or equivalent
  • Two years experience in animal services, animal shelter operations, or related field; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience 
  • Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver’s license
