The buzz is back! Beginner beekeeping returns November 7

Our next cycle is starting again! The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County’s Beekeeping Series is starting on November 7.

For ten years, this annual series has helped hundreds of beginner beekeepers learn and build confidence in beekeeping during their first years. All of the classes are held on Saturdays at the University of Florida’s Honey Bee Research and Extension Laboratory, which is a state-of-the-art facility for research and extension on honey bees.

This series will help you learn the fundamentals of beekeeping so you can take full advantage of the intermediate and advanced tracks at Bee College. Each class includes interactive group discussions, show-and-tell segments, hands-on hive demonstrations, and other in-class demos and activities designed to make learning practical.

First Class – Beginner Beekeeping

The first class is our longest, as it sets the foundation for beekeeping. This six-hour class covers principles of honey bee biology, equipment, how to use a smoker, regulations for starting an apiary in FL, and a special emphasis on how to conduct a hive inspection.

This popular class fills up quickly, and space is limited to 30 participants, so don’t wait!. Reserve your spot today. It is ideal to attend this first class before joining the remaining classes, but it’s not required.
