Graduating Student Spotlight: Yicheng Yang

Today’s graduating student spotlight is Yicheng Yang! Yicheng is graduating with his Master of Science degree. Yicheng was able to find belonging among his peers with his participation in the ABE Graduate Student Organization. Read more about Yicheng’s UF ABE experience this Q&A.

What are your favorite memories during your time at the University of Florida?

I participated in a surfing learning event organized by the University’s Surf and Skim Club. It was the first time I had ever surfed. With the help of a surfing trainer, I successfully surfed in the sea after 30 minutes of training. It is an unforgettable experience.

How did the UF Agricultural and Biological Engineering department help you succeed as a student and prepare you for your next steps?

The ABE Graduate Student Organization brought me a kind of sense of belonging. All ABE faculty, staff and students are family members. Additionally, the Biocomplexity Seminar group helped me widen my horizon.

Did you have any advisors or mentors that helped you during your time at UF?

Dr. Bin Gao was my advisor and he helped me a lot. He helped me find what I was interested in and we talked about it for further research.

What are your plans after graduation?

I will be continuing my research as a Ph.D. student in ABE.

What are some tips for success you would give to other students?

Definitely attend events the ABE department.
