Spice up Your Summer with Sunset Salsa
As the school year wrapped up, 935 students at school gardens throughout Sarasota County made about 8 gallons of Sunset Salsa as part of harvest celebrations with Sarasota County UF/IFAS Extension’s Family Nutrition and School Gardens Programs. Spice up you summer while these zesty favorites are still in season!
½ C minced orange
¾ C diced pineapple
¾ C diced tomato, seeded
½ C minced red onion
½ C chopped fresh cilantro
Juice of 1 or 2 limes
1 tsp sugar or honey (optional)
¼ C chopped jalapeno peppers (optional)
Directions: Mix all ingredients, let flavors blend, place in refrigerator for 1 hour before serving.
Makes about 2 — 2 ½ cups
