UF/IFAS CALS international students recognized at awards ceremony

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four students with the University of Florida’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences were recognized at the International Student Awards ceremony last month.

The students — Julius Adewopo, Cheryl Rock, Amandeep Sandhu and Ying Yao — were chosen to receive Outstanding International Student awards because they demonstrate academic achievement; contribute to department, college and campus life; and are involved in the Gainesville community, said Allen Wysocki, CALS associate dean for academic programs.

At the award ceremony, hosted by the UF International Center, 64 international students received awards.

The four students from CALS, part of the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, are all enrolled in doctoral programs.

Adewopo studies soil and water sciences under adviser Maria L. Silveira; Rock and Sandhu are in Food Science and Human Nutrition and are advised by Wade Yang and Liwei Gu, respectively; Yao is in agricultural and biological engineering and is advised by Bin Gao.

Wysocki said the students are deserving of the recognition.

“We are proud to have them as part of our CALS graduate student body,” he said.
