2013 UF/IFAS Extension Calendar/Annual Report

Purpose

The goal of the UF/IFAS Extension calendar is to inform legislators, community leaders and the general public of the beneficial work that the UF/IFAS Extension does for the state of Florida. It accomplishes that goal in the form of a useful calendar that also serves as an annual report.

For the 2013 calendar, a greater emphasis was placed on helping the public identify specific UF/IFAS Extension program areas. The featured program areas were designed to highlight seven priority initiatives identified in Florida Extension’s ten-year strategic plan. Another goal of the calendar was to demonstrate to the audience the role that UF/IFAS Extension plays in their communities and to help them establish contact points with UF/IFAS Extension employees.

Audience

The audience for this publication includes Florida legislators, community leaders, elected officials, UF/IFAS Extension county agents, researchers, faculty, administration and the general public.

Marketing/promotion

The calendar/annual report is a yearly publication, distributed to all UF/IFAS departments and UF/IFAS Extension county offices. An alligator image was used on the cover to create a type of University of Florida “branding” for the calendar. Copy for each calendar month helped to deepen brand identity by defining UF/IFAS Extension’s notable characteristics (e.g., UF/IFAS Extension is…Caring for the Environment; UF/IFAS Extension is…In Your Neighborhood). Small feature stories exemplified those characteristics and highlighted the benefits of specific UF/IFAS Extension programs.

We produce an eye-catching piece by using the beauty of Florida landscapes to enhance the visual appeal of the calendar and, in turn, this entices busy officials to pick it up and read it. These ‘beauty shots’ were paired with smaller images of UF/IFAS Extension county agents working in the field and people engaging in UF/IFAS Extension programs. The purpose was to help users to recognize the role that UF/IFAS Extension plays in their community.

Links to Facebook and Twitter were prominently featured on the back cover to encourage involvement in social media. The calendar also acts as a marketing tool for the UF/IFAS Extension Solutions for Your Life website, which in turn increases awareness of UF/IFAS Extension programs.
