With the excitement in the air for the upcoming adventure at Camp Cherry Lake, it’s time to think about why camping experiences really are exciting for young people.
Besides the obvious get-away from parents and siblings (in some cases), young people need the opportunity to explore new activities, meet new people and exert their independence in a safe, nurturing environment. All 4-H Camps offer these experiences and are unified in their approach to meet not only the physical needs of children, but their emotional and developmental needs as well.
By living in cabins, raising and saluting the flag, eating and playing in a camp setting, young people are able to develop their life skills including character, managing feelings, healthy lifestyles, resiliency and concern for others. This year’s theme for Camp Cherry Lake is the London Olympics and we will be having fun celebrating the Olympic theme throughout the week.
