SNRE student Ryan Jones was part of a TIME magazine feature on the Amazon rain forest that is now available online. It is part of the magazine’s climate change issue. Jones, an interdisciplinary ecology master’s degree student, used photogrammetry to create 3D models of objects that supplement the larger written piece by Matt Sandy.

“It is some of the first use of augmented reality in a journalistic setting,” Ryan said about the two-week experience in the Rondônia state of Brazil.

Ryan received his B.S. from the University of Florida. His research focus is merging conservation science and visual storytelling to generate calls to action.Dr. Susan Jacobson in the Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Department is Ryan’s advisor.
