Welcome to our new Summer Blog Series, SFRC Serves. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we are sharing stories of how our students and alumni give back to their communities.
Name:
Allie Marshbanks
Program:
Bachelor in Marine Sciences
Allie Marshbanks is a Marine Science major and a senior in her undergraduate class. She is an active volunteer and has become an officer of UF’s Marine Biology Club. This club is aimed at giving students different opportunities to learn about marine science in the Gainesville area, which provides her with numerous volunteer activities.
Allie says, “some of the volunteering I have done in the spring semester through this club included a beach cleanup at Daytona Beach with 4Ocean! I also volunteered with UF’s Nature Coast Biological Station’s “living shorelines” project, where I helped transplant marsh grasses along with constructing oyster sills.”
When it comes to finding new ways to give back, Allie notes,“ I also discovered this volunteering opportunity through the Marine Biology Club. This is a great club to look into for volunteer opportunities, exposure to research (through guest speakers), and to meet like-minded people!”
