4-H is a powerful program for young people to grow as leaders, serve their communities, and make lifelong friendships. In Seminole County, one of the best ways to dive deeper into the 4-H experience is by joining the Seminole County 4-H Ambassadors.

But what exactly is the Ambassador program? And how can youth get involved? Read on to find out!

 

What Are the Seminole County 4-H Ambassadors?

The Seminole County 4-H Ambassadors are a dynamic group of 4-H youth leaders who from across the county. They meet monthly to:

  • Plan and assist with 4-H programs, events, and activities
  • Provide a link between local 4-H clubs and the broader county, district, and state 4-H leadership programs
  • Develop leadership skills and gain experience in public speaking, teamwork, and event planning
  • Be the voice of youth in Seminole County 4-H

Whether you’re passionate about community service, wish to strengthen your leadership skills, enjoy planning events, or simply want to connect with other 4-Hers, this is your place to shine.

 

How Can I Get Involved?

Getting started is simple! Here’s how:

Attend the Monthly Meetings
Meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month (September to May) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the UF IFAS Extension Seminole County Office (250 W. County Home Rd., Sanford, FL 32773).

Join a Committee
Ambassadors have the chance to join small committees that help plan, organize, and run specific parts of the 4-H program. Committees meet during regular Ambassador meetings.

If you’re ready to take your leadership to the next level, consider applying for a role on the Seminole County 4-H Ambassador Leadership Team!

Leadership Positions & Qualifications

Position Who Can Apply Responsibilities
President Senior members with 1+ year in 4-H Lead meetings, appoint committees, vote in case of a tie
Vice President / Programs Chair Senior members with 1+ year in 4-H Lead in President’s absence, plan meeting programs
Secretary Intermediate or Senior with 1+ year in 4-H Keep minutes, call roll, manage correspondence
Historian Intermediate or Senior with 1+ year in 4-H Take photos and create end-of-year slideshow
Community Connections Chair Intermediate or Senior with 1+ year in 4-H Lead community service efforts and promote community outreach
Recreation Leader Intermediate or Senior with 1+ year in 4-H Plan games and team-building activities
Sergeant-at-Arms Intermediate or Senior with 1+ year in 4-H Set up and clean up meeting space, lead pledges
Parliamentarian Intermediate or Senior with 1+ year in 4-H Ensure meetings follow Robert’s Rules of Order

Candidate Speeches

Speech Night: Thursday, September 4 at 6:30 p.m..
Location: UF IFAS Extension Seminole County

Each candidate will deliver one speech (up to 5 minutes) answering these questions:

  1. What qualities or experiences make you the right person for this position?
  2. What does leadership mean to you and how would you demonstrate it?
  3. How will you make sure all youth in Seminole County 4-H feel represented and included?

After all speeches, voting will take place. Each youth may only present one speech, even if applying for multiple positions.
