Who and what?
Young Farmers and Ranchers (YFR) targets anyone between 18-35 who has a desire to network, share ideas, participate in community projects and refine their leadership skills. We will talk more about it at the meeting, but we are hoping to work together to educate the community on food production. Prior to COVID-19, this group was active in Seminole County. We are hoping to connect with more young leaders through this kick off meeting.
Do you have to be a farmer or rancher to join? Not at all! If you eat food, then agriculture impacts your life. Current membership is a mixture of those working in a variety of industries including agriculture, horticulture, education, engineering, business, and beyond.
Why?
Agriculture is critical to our daily lives! From the food we eat to the products we use, agriculture impacts our day to day. We aim to bring together likeminded individuals that understand the importance of agriculture and want to help support agriculture in our local community.
Our vision: A community where everyone appreciates, understands and applies agriculture in their daily lives.
Our mission: To educate the community on the importance and availability agriculture holds in an urban setting through outreach, education and connecting the consumer to the producer.
Our 2022 goals: Establish the Seminole County YFR Chapter. Host an annual agriculture awareness event to connect consumers with food and farmers. Partner with UF/IFAS Extension Seminole County to educate and demonstrate the importance of agriculture in an urban area.
