Matthew E. Smith, professor of Fungal Biology in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Florida, was presented the William H. Weston Award for excellence in Teaching at the 2023 annual meeting of the Mycological Society of America in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Named for William Henry Weston Jr., the first president of the Mycological Society of America, the award is given annually to an outstanding teacher of fungal biology and recognizes Smith’s commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring fungal biology students.
