COVID-19 didn’t stop the 4-H’ers from competing in their demonstrations or Share-the-Fun acts for the annual Pinellas 4-H County Competitive Events. Even though the in-person event was canceled, youth stepped up to meet the challenge of competing virtually.
Fun and Educational Presentations
23 youth competed in demonstrations and illustrated talks with topics ranging from how to make frozen hot chocolate to household cat hazards. In addition to these informative talks, 8 youth submitted a talent act to the Share-the-Fun competition. 38 photos were also submitted to the photography contest. All of these youth uploaded videos or their photos to be judges by volunteers all around the country.
Thank You Volunteer Judges!
Many of the volunteers for the videos were judges that judge or have judged in-person events in the past. We had volunteers help that live as far away as Idaho and Illinois. It was incredible to see how many volunteers were willing to lend their time to support the 4-H youth, even during a pandemic. The virtual platform allowed both youth and volunteers to participate when the distance or schedules otherwise would not have allowed them to.
Results
Congratulations to all our participants! All blue ribbon seniors and overall winners for photography will advance to the state level, which will also be held virtually this year.
