A county faculty whitefly training announcement was sent out to UF-IFAS pest alert on March 1st. Within the announcement, I mistakenly attached the speaker biography information instead of the agenda. Subsequent to the announcement, I have received several questions about the training. The county faculty of the University of Florida are the target audience for the training; therefore, perhaps the announcement should not have been sent to all of Pest Alert. In some cases, county faculty may have reserved larger rooms to accommodate more participants, but this is on a county-by-county basis. Online e-learning training (for landscape professionals) is available on the Florida Whitefly website (http://flwhitefly.org/ ). Larger polycom sessions at the University of Florida are often recorded, and I will send out the recording for those unable to attend the Polycom videoconference training. We will also link to any recorded information on the Florida Whitefly website.
The good news is that various educational programs continue to occur throughout UF-IFAS Extension for whiteflies due to the excellent efforts of our whitefly, landscape IPM specialists, and county faculty. I am certain that many county faculty will also plan local future training sessions based on the in-service training. In the future, I will streamline the UF-IFAS Pest Alert information towards opportunities primarily available to the general public. For those of you that have responded with questions regarding the whitefly in-service training, thank you. Your feedback has assisted me in improving future announcements.
