February 23, 2021 at 12 pm we will have a programmatic update with the Director of the University of Florida’s Doctor of Plant Medicine Program, Dr. Amanda Hodges and the Director of the University of Nebraska’s Doctor of Plant Health Program, Dr. Gary Hein. The DPM and DPH programs are one-of-a-kind programs that promote hands-on learning and diagnostic skills in plant pathology, entomology, nematology, agronomy, and soil science.

February 27, 2021 we will also be hosting our 2nd Annual Conference of Plant Doctors and Plant Health Professionals alongside our February Flora and Fauna Festival. This will be a virtual celebration of all things plant and plant health!
This year the conference will primarily focus on the state of the Fruit and Vegetable Industry, with a keynote address by Mike Aerts of the Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association.
There will additionally be an interactive roundtable table discussion focused on “Intractable Challenges to Food Security and Safety in Our Backyard”, as organized by two of our DPM Alumni-Dr. Nicole Casuso, FDACS-DPI and Dr. Tim Durham, Ferrum College.
Speakers for this exciting roundtable discussion will include:
- Hugh Smith, Associate Professor of Entomology and Nematology at the University of Florida
- Eunett R. James-Mack, Florida Agricultural Liaison, Office of Field Operations/U.S. Custom and Border Protection.
- Robert C. Hochmuth, Assistant Center Director and Regional Specialized Extension Agent for the University of Florida.
- Trevor Smith, Director of the Florida Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry.
The ceremony will conclude with the award of the 2nd annual scholarship in honor of the late Dr. George Agrios.
