Osceola County 4-H Call to Action

4-H has a long history of members and volunteers stepping up in times of need to serve their communities. We are currently living in one of these times. The Osceola County Community, along with many others, is facing a shortage of certain medical supplies. It is our opportunity as a 4-H program to support our medical professionals and to meet this need.

Community Need

Our Osceola County community is in need of washable surgical scrub caps with buttons. In many COVID-19 units, along with others, medical personnel are required to cover their heads/hair. The best way to do this is by wearing a surgical scrub cap. Many manufacturers of washable surgical caps have sold out. Therefore; we are calling all Osceola County 4-H members and families to help us address the need in our community.

Response

Our goal is to make and donate 300 surgical caps from Osceola County 4-H. This is a 4-H family sewing project therefore; it is designed for the whole family to participate in. The instructions have an easy to use key to identify suggested tasks for each age group. Use the how-to video for additional support. Use the video with the above instructions to help complete the project. Note: This project does not require printing a pattern and is meant for beginning sewers.

How to Get Started

Sew, you want to help, now what? If you are a part of Osceola County 4-H, and have basic sewing equipment (sewing machine, thread, scissors, iron, measuring tape, and pins), you can submit a supply request for materials needed. We will ship the materials to you. To submit a supply request visit: https://ufl.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6WCPGh4VyNmZFZz

Donations

We are encouraging that donations are made to family members and friends who are in need, along with the floor/unit that they work with. If you don’t have any family members or friends in the medical field, the Osceola County Emergency Management Department will accept donations of surgical caps. Email Jessica Sprain, jsprain@ufl.edu, for contact information. Please include a thank you note with each cap donated identifying you as a 4-H member/family/club. We would love to see pictures. Post to social media tagging Osceola County 4-H @osceola4h and use the hashtags #4heverywhere and #inspirekidstodo. We are excited to see your creations!
