A: Florida ranchers are known as cow/calf producers. This means ranches are home to momma cows who produce a calf every year. When the momma has successfully raised a calf to a certain weight the rancher sends the calf to a Midwestern state. The reason for this is that the climate is cooler and the environment is more suitable for growing the grasses and grains that cattle like to eat. Cows like corn, wheat, oats, soybeans and other grasses. Once there, the calves are fed and cared for until they are ready for harvest.
